ZINC ACETATE - is made from zinc nitrate and acetic anhydride. It is used to induce vomiting.
ZINC CARBONATE - is the rock known as smithsonite or zincspar. It is used to manufacture rubber.
ZINC CHLORIDE - is a combination of zinc and chlorine. It is used as an embalming material.
ZINC CITRATE - is smithsonite processed with citric acid. It is used in the manufacture of some toothpaste.
ZINC GLUCONATE - is a zinc rock processed with gluconic acid. Gluconic acid is used in many cleaning compounds.
ZINC LACTATE - is smithsonite processed with lactic acid. Lactic acid lactate is used as a solvent.
ZINC OROTATE - is a zinc rock processed with orotic acid. Orotic acid is a uricosuric (promotes uric acid excretion).
ZINC OXIDE - is the rock known as zincite. It is used as a pigment for white paint and as part of quick-drying cement.
ZINC PHOSPHATE - is the rock known as hopeite. It is used in dental cements.
ZINC PICOLINATE - is a zinc rock processed with picolinic acid. Picolinic acid is used in herbicides.
ZINC SULFATE - can be a rock (historically known as "white vitriol') processed with sulfuric acid. It is used as a corrosive in calico-printing and to preserve wood.
* DID YOU KNOW:  With the exception of chromium GTF (which occurs in living organisms), two-word mineral descriptions on supplement labels (i.e. calcium phosphate, magnesium carbonate) are referring to some type of industrially-processed rock and not a mineral form found in food.  Minerals in foods are in elemental forms with protein chaperones (not chemically-bound like industrially-processed rocks).
How To Read Your Vitamin Labels
The structural and chemical forms of Food and synthetic nutrients are normally different. Read the label of any supplement to see if the product is truly 100% Food. If any Non-Food vitamin analogue is listed, then the entire product is probably not Food (normally it will be less than 5% Food). Vitamin analogues are cheap (or not so cheap) imitations of vitamins found in foods.

Did you know that sea vegetables almost perfectly match the mineral composition of human blood? Consider the facts that our earth is about 60% water (primarily oceans), and our bodies are also about 60% water (fluids in and around our cells, and our blood). The mineral content of sea vegetables reflects the mineral profile of the oceans in which they grow, and virtually no other category of food contains as diverse a mineral content as is found in sea vegetables.It's also difficult to find any category of food whose overall mineral composition better matches that of human blood. The nutritional uniqueness of sea vegetables also involves a category of nutrients called sulfated polysaccharides. This category of carbohydrate-related nutrients, also called fucans, has been studied for its anti-inflammatory properties, and fucan extracts from brown sea vegetables have been found to lower inflammatory activities of key human proteins involved in inflammation called complement proteins.

Kelp - helps regulate thyroid gland, healthy skin and hair

Kelp is a seaweed that extracts components from seawater and concentrates them
in its frond-shaped leaves, making it an abundant source of vitamins and minerals like iodine, potassium, magnesium, calcium and iron. One of the benefits claimed for kelp is that its abundance of vitamins and minerals can promote healthy hair and skin.

However, kelp is mostly taken for its naturally high iodine content, which helps the functioning of the thyroid gland. Iodine is essential for the formation of thyroid hormones, which regulate the body's energy production, promote growth and development, and help burn excess fat. 

Natural food sources of iodine include seafood, bread, dairy foods and salt, and kelp supplements may help anyone who avoids these foods in their daily diet.

The thinking behind taking kelp is that in some parts of the world, thyroid disease is related to iodine deficiency. In fact, in the US and most developed countries, iodine deficiency is rare; and because thyroids are extremely sensitive to iodine, you must avoid taking too much.

People who eat excessive amounts of raw cabbage or nuts (which reduce the body's uptake of iodine) may find supplements useful if their iodine intake remains otherwise low. Deficiencies can be treated with 150 micrograms of iodine daily. Prolonged use of large amounts of iodine (6 mg or more daily) may suppress activity of the thyroid gland. A safe upper limit of iodine is 1000 micrograms per day.


Similar to several seaweeds, kelp (Ascophyllum Nodosum) is packed with lots of nutriments that aid in sustaining optimal health. Kelp contains elevated concentrations of iodine, iron, potassium, calcium and manganese and many other nutrients. It also contains over 11 different vitamins, as many as 20 amino acids and about 60 essential minerals.
Culinary uses
Kelp is also used for culinary purposes and traditionally it has been used in the form of a vital food, particularly when there is a dearth of foodstuff.
You may boil this oceanic vegetable to prepare a soup stock and extract and eat the seaweed from it along with salads or other dishes. In addition, you may also dry up seaweeds and pulverize them into a powder and use it in your cooking.
It may be noted here that alginic acid that is used in different food preparations is actually prepared with extracts obtained from Ascophyllum Nodosum.
