DID YOU GET THE INFO: 10 Second Sex Rejuvenation Posture/DIABETES & CANCER: Is it Coming From Your Cooking

In the event you haven't signed up for the Herbs are Nature's Medicine Newsletter yet, at the end of this Post I have included information about the Newsletter contents and a link to Opt In and sign up for the Newsletter - here are a few excerpts from today's (Nov 5th) Issue:

excerpts from: . . . . .  Is Your Cooking Killing You?

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF TEMPERATURE AND MOISTURE . . . . both carmelization and the Maillard reaction only occur when food is cooked over 300-320 degrees F with hot and dry methods of cooking, like roasting, grilling, BBQing, frying and microwaving.  Wetter and cooler forms of cooking, such as steaming and boiling do not provide the conditions for the chemical reasons, which is why boiled meat or carrots will never go brown and crispy.

These cooking processes creates end products called "Advanced Glycation End (AGE), which are causing significant damage to many parts of the human body.

DANGERS OF ADVANCED GLYCATION END PRODUCTS . . . . AGEs are produced inside the body, in very small quantities, but we get a lot more from the food we eat as Dietary AGE products or dAGEs. They are found naturally in food, specifically animal protein, but the amount increases dramatically after certain cooking processes.

Raw chicken breast (naturally high in protein) contains about 700 dAGE kilo units per 90g serving ~ boiled for 1hr and the same piece of chicken dAGEkU increases to 1,100; microwaved for 3 minutes increases the dAGEku to 1,300; broil for 15min it increases massively to 5,200 dAGEkUs; fry for 8min you increase the toxic load to 6,300 dAGEkUs.  Boiled eggs contain 200 units each, but fried increases to 1,200 units each; boiled potato jumps from 17 units to over 1,500 when prepared as fries, and even an innocent apple nearly triples of dAGE content when baked from just 17 to 45 units.

exercepts from: . . . . . COLONICS: Better for your Body than Extreme Detoxing?

Greetings Family, last issue we were speaking about "To Detox or Not to Detox?"  And after some brief discussion about the pros and cons, I recommended colonics as a better alternative to purifying the body as opposed to what I consider unfair stress upon the body when detoxing is done unnecessarily.

People get colonics to remove accumulated waste from the colon, to help prevent constipation and to improve overall health.

As we discussed last issue, detoxing (in my opinion) is a severe method of stripping the body by depriving the system of foods, and to what purpose? If your skin is breaking out, you are constipated, sluggish and fatigued after sleep, with other irregular symptoms, and do not have any chronic or degenerative disease, there are better 'body-friendly' ways to correct your otherwise bad habits. Like cleaning up up your diet, increasing your water intake, getting sufficient rest and consciously reducing stress! That is a more "natural" way to detox with NO strain on the body and its systems.

A colonic is the infusion of water into the rectum by a colon therapist to cleanse and flush out the colon. It is also called colonic hydrotherapy or colon irrigation.

A colonic is actually a procedure I would recommend that everyone have regularly.  WHY?  Well, think about it. As many times a day that you consume foods and drinks, do you really think it all comes out - totally - daily? I assure you it does not.

10 Nutrition Tips if you WANT TO GO RAW DIET

When first starting out in eating raw foods, it might not only seem overwhelming, but you might also be confused about where to start and which information to follow.
After eating an almost 100% raw food diet for 12 months, and then a high raw diet for the past three years, I have learned a thing or two about how to eat mostly raw and still be healthy and sane. It all boils down to these ten really simple guidelines, which if you follow, will help you to stay on the right track.

1. Always choose the best quality food you can afford. This means organic and local as much as you can.
2. Only eat when you are hungry, and stop eating when you are full (a principle that should apply whenever you eat anything).
3. Eat your greens! Try to have vibrant greens 2-3 times per day in the form of a green juice, salad, a green smoothie or incorporated in another raw food dish.
4. Aim to fill your plate with 75% fresh, raw and organic fruits and vegetables with each meal.
5. Drink plenty of water. 6-8 glasses of water a day is important to stay hydrated and to support your body in releasing toxins (which is what starts to happen when you go raw)
6. Keep your meals simple yet nourishing, and try to eat only one cooked or one heavy raw meal per day, with lighter raw meals such as salads, juices and smoothies making up your other meals.
7. Eat from the rainbow! Try to have as many different colored foods in your diet as possible each day.
8. Experiment and diversify your diet. Try at least one new recipe a week and include a variety of raw food groups in your diet to keep it interesting (this will include fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, fermented foods, seaweeds and sprouted grains).
9. Find pleasure in your food. Enjoy the food you eat and savor all the tastes and textures you experience. By eating mindfully you savor the experience and are less likely to have cravings later.
10. Have fun and think of eating raw foods as an adventure. Don’t let following a raw food diet become like a regime. You don’t have to eat 100% raw and be completely rigid to experience many of the benefits of this way of eating. Look at raw foods as an experiment and your body is the lab- see what works for you and explore all the many raw food options that are out there.

EBOLA: Natural Immune Enhancement Strategies

Here is some very valuable information about the Ebola crises that has got the world in its grasp.  This information is from an
esteemed colleague and very dear friend of mine,
who has studied, taught and practiced the
world over.  FYI
Dr. Robert J. Woodbine, N.D., M.Ac.O.M.
Wellness Educator, Director
URBAN Qi Foundation, Inc.

Dear Family, Patients, Students and Colleagues,

This morning I was a guest on a radio talk show discussing the mental health implications of the FEAR and ANXIETY in this country around the Ebola virus issue that is happening in West Africa. While the Ebola virus is a formidable and highly infectious virus wreaking havoc on the citizens in the three West African countries of Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Liberia, there is very little actual threat here in the US. As all of the medical and science researchers as well as the White House have repeatedly stated, transmittal of the Ebola virus is only from a person who is already symptomatic. If one is asymptomatic (no symptoms), that person is a possible carrier, but not infectious. Once a person becomes symptomatic (fever equal to or greater than 101 degrees (F), flu-like symptoms with joint and muscle aches, sore throat, headaches followed by vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, then it is possible to be infected by coming into direct contact with their bodily fluids (vomit, feces, semen, breast milk, saliva [maybe]).

Despite this specific clarity about the transmission of the virus, people are unnecessarily fearful and anxious. Politicians (New York, New Jersey, Florida, Illinois governors) have instituted measures that, as Dr. Fauci of the NIAID/NIH, states, do not comport with the science. These mandatory quarantines themselves give the public a mixed message and generate fear and anxiety. They are short-sighted reactions and seem to serve the ego and political agendas rather than actually serve the long-term health interests of the general public they purport to serve. If mandatory quarantines dissuade trained healthcare workers from volunteering to travel to West Africa to help because they know they will experience a mandatory 21-day quarantine when they return to the US, who will intervene to stop the exponential spread of the Ebola virus in Africa? Eventually, in that scenario, it will make its appearance on US and other foreign soils. Mandatory quarantines of the type enacted in New Jersey are politically self-serving, short-sighted , and void of the medical and science facts as we currently know them.

The initial flu-like symptoms are pretty generic this time of year during flu and cold season. Living in densely populated New York it’s not uncommon to be sneezed and coughed on in the crowded buses and subways, or to come in contact with the residual germs sick people leave on the straps and poles we hold onto while traveling. In spite of that level of exposure, the majority of people do not get sick with the flu. Only certain susceptible individual seem to. If you’re a critical thinker, you must ask that secondary question—Why don’t all people exposed to virulent bacteria and viruses succumb to them? Even with Ebola outbreaks from 1976 when it was first identified in Sudan and Zaire up through 2103, there were only 1716 cases. Of those, roughly 50% did not die. Why?

You will recall that Louis Pasteur is credited with the “Germ Theory” of disease upon which most of modern western medicine is built. This gives rise to the consistent strategy of waging “war” on bacteria and viruses and supports the pharmaceutical industry’s production of vaccines and other drugs—the ammunition with which to wage these wars. The misuse and overuse of these weapons of war (i.e., the over prescribing of antibiotics) has resulted in a major medical care crises of drug-resistant bacteria. Dr. Marc Lappe’, Ph.D. is quoted as saying, “Underestimating the evolutionary potential of living organisms is the single most important mistake by those who use chemical means to subdue nature.”

It is said that on his deathbed, Pasteur stated that his germ theory was incomplete and gave credit to his contemporary, Koch, by stating that it was not the germ in of itself that was the culprit in disease, but rather the terrain it could thrive in. There is a Chinese proverb mentioned in the book first edition of Herbal Antibiotics-Natural Alternatives for Treating Drug-Resistant Bacteria by Stephen Harrod Buhner that summarizes this. It says: “The man is not sick because he has an illness; he has an illness because he is sick.” The issue of individual susceptibility and the critical importance of the quality of each person’s immune system is paramount to keep in mind.

Our immune systems are the first line of defense in protecting the body from illness. This is the “terrain” that must be optimal to ward off disease and its quality can contribute to this concept of susceptibility. While an estimated 20,000 to 40, 000 people die from the flu annually in the US, not everyone that is exposed to the flu “bug”, gets the flu. While measles (594 to date) and enterovirus (998 to date) cases among children seem to be increasing (about 594 to date), not every child get the measles or is beset by the enterovirus.

With this in mind, I believe it is critical to bolster and support your immune system. One of the most important actions you can take is to manage your emotions by thinking critically and evaluating the hype from the facts in the media. Being well informed supports correct behavior and helps to lessen fear and anxiety. It is well-documented how chronic negative emotions and stress can diminish your immune system’s effectiveness (google the field of psychoneuroimmunolgy or read Candace Pert’s The Molecules of Emotion).

Additionally, there are specific action steps and lifestyle choices that can make a difference in how you can strengthen your immune system and decrease your susceptibility. One of the most insidious culprits affecting our well-being is cigarette smoking either direct or second-hand exposure. As of 2011, lung cancer was the leading cause of cancer deaths and second most common cancer among men and women. A total of 207, ooo cases were diagnosed and 157,000 deaths were attributed to lung cancer (close to 8,000 deaths were due to second-hand smoke). The primary cause of lung cancer is cigarette smoking.

This is just one important example of a lifestyle choice that compromises not only the smoker’s immunity and health, but those who inhale their smoke who themselves are not smokers. If you smoke, get the help to stop. Other lifestyle choices, although not an exhaustive list, include the quality of the foods you eat (it’s optimal to eat organic and non-gmo foods whenever possible), your sleep hygiene, relationships (reconcile toxic ones including personal, family, social, and employment), whether or not you exercise regularly (use it or lose it), and your use of pharmaceutical (only when absolutely needed) and recreational drugs.

The links below will provide you with specific options to consider in designing a regiment that optimizes your immune system and its ability to respond to viral and bacterial assaults appropriately. In addition, you can consider visiting Willners Chemists at 41st Street and Park Avenue or online at www.willner.com to become familiar with products like Crucera-SGS (Thorne Research), V Clear EPS 7630 (Integrative Therapeutics), HMF Replete (Seroyal), and MyCommunity (Host Defense). There are the benefits inherent in meditation and mindfulness disciplines (Yoga, Qigong, Tai Chi, etc.) you can explore as well.

In summary, unless you’ve traveled to West Africa or been exposed to someone who has and that person is symptomatic, there is no cause for alarm. If you know of someone who happens to be from Liberia, Guinea, or Sierra Leone, but they have not been to West Africa recently or come in contact with anyone who is symptomatic, there is no cause for alarm or suspicion. Ebola is not an airborne infectious virus like the seasonal flu. You have a risk of infection if you make direct contact with the bodily fluids of a symptomatic individual or the surfaces of where those fluids are. If in the course of this season, you develop sudden flu-like symptoms with a fever, joint and muscle pains, fatigue and you haven’t been in contact with someone who was in West Africa (whether a native born person or a health care worker returning to the US) chances you are very high that you probably have the flu and not Ebola. The flu is more likely to kill more American citizens this season than Ebola.

Stay informed, think critically, not emotionally, and be proactive about supporting and enhancing your immune system, in particular, and your overall health and well-being, in general. As Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. used to say, “It’s in your hands!”

I LOVE Y0U / ME

"LOVE AFTER LOVE"

The time will come
when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other’s welcome,

and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was yourself.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf

the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.

DO YOU KNOW HOW TO: Heal your Children's Chakras; To Detox or Not To Detox . . . DID YOU CATCH THESE ARTICLES???

In the event you have not yet signed up for the "Herbs are Nature's Medicine Newsletter," at the end of this Post I have included information about the Newsletter contents and a link to Opt In and sign up for the Newsletter.  If you sign up before the next Issue is published, there is also a link to access the Archived issues you clearly have missed, as well as a link to purchase Haritaki Seeds.  Here are a few excerpts from the Oct 15th Issue:

excerpt from: Healing your Children's Chakras

"From the moment we conceive our children, we begin to shape and mold their minds, hearts and character. Because they actually inherit our genes, this transference of "us" begins even before the sperm meets the egg. The way we think, eat, how we are educated, our spiritual belief system, and how we relate to family and friends is all established as THEIR "frame of reference" once they are born. They inherit our weaknesses as well as our strengths, our hatred as well as our concepts of love (of SELF and others).

". . . . . . . So our job begins in the womb as we begin to birth and raise our children's chakras and souls to be balanced and fully energized and accessible to them as a source of emotional and spiritual healing. For the developing fetus, the uterus is the first experience of body, the first home and environment, and the ground of being from which life emerges. For this reason this environment has an important and often overlooked influence on first chakra development.

The period to develop a child's 1st Root Chakra is during the 2nd trimester to 12 months. The Root Chakra is the source of our life force and forms the vital foundation for all the higher chakras, and is located at the base of the spine (coccyx). In the first few months of life your nervous system responds instinctively. Your consciousness is not developed enough to block any flow of energy. You are utterly open, as you have
not yet learned to filter out anything unwanted. Your infant body is literally flooded with aliveness or charge. It is from this state that you form your first chakra and the very beginnings of self. This chakra aids us in our everyday survival, and is actually the basis of both our masculine and feminine energies. . . . . . . . .

excerpt from: You Asked Me . . .

a column where I answer people's questions about their personal health issues/concerns:

TO DETOX or NOT TO DETOX!
THAT is the Question.

Greetings Family, often people call or write and ask me what herbs/diet do I suggest for a safe detox.

My question to them is "Do you REALLY need to detox?"

"Detoxing" has become popular, but do they work? And what are you trying to accomplish? You might lose weight on a detox diet, because they're usually very low in calories.

But the idea that your body needs help getting rid of toxins has "no basis in human biology," says Frank Sacks, MD, of the Harvard School of Public Health.

Your organs and immune system are designed to handle those duties, no matter what you eat.

Plus, you're likely to lose weight and gain it back when you go off any extreme diet. Some detox regimens involve fasting, or just drinking liquids. Others allow some foods, like fruits and vegetables. They typically are short diets -- not a way of eating you can stick with in the long run.

If the idea of detoxing appeals to you, try "clean" eating that focuses on vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and lean protein -- basically, whole foods without without a lot of processed foods. Some detox plans recommend herbs, pills, powders, enemas, and other forms of colon cleansing.

My general position on detoxing is that if a person is suffering from a chronic illness or degenerative disease, then detoxing is imperative to facilitate the body's need to eliminate harmful toxins, diseased cells and introduce concentrated foods to replace and rejuvenate new life-giving cell growth. . . . . . . cont'd

is an extemely versatile herb.

HERBS ARE NATURE'S MEDICINE . . . A very potent herb that is not very well known and seldom used is VERVAIN. Because it has an affinity for the liver, spleen and nervous system, it relieves conditions of liver disorders, irregular and painful menses, as an emmenagogue it increases milk in nursing moms and relieves mastitis as well.

It also has very strong healing properties as an anticancer herb, antiscrofulous (TB of neck lymph nodes), antispasmodic, astringent, bitter, emetic, emmenagogue, febrifuge (reduces fever), nervine and stomachic.

Other medicinal uses include congestion, depression, migraines, nerve/back pain, rheumatoid arthritis, jaundice and gout; and the infusion is used to help pass kidney stones and for infections of the bladder.

The above ground part of Vervain is used in a tea for acute symptoms of colds, flu and fevers. For nervousness caused by liver congestion, anger, shock (all symptoms resulting from an unbalanced Wood Element comprising the liver and gall bladder), a powerful tea can be made by combining equal parts vervain, skullcap, camomile, valerian, Oregon grape root and ginger. Use a natural sweetener only and drink 3 cups daily. To relieve symptoms of PMS, add chaste berries to the above formula.
