The same way we take food to strengthen bones, build our blood, feed our nervous system, etc., herbs are used in the same way to feed, rejuvenate and regenerate our organs, as they provide our body with nutrients and other components that enhance organ functions and whole body health and balance.

Herbal Tonics are formulas made in specific combinations to act directly on that organ system, taken in small amounts over a longer period of time, have a general effect on the whole body, and facilitates a healthy balance of that system's vital energy. Below are some main categories of herbs, from which you can select a few herbs to use as a basis for a tonic formula.

Licorice Root
To rejuvenate the liver (and subsequently every organ in the body), drink a tonic made from a few of these herbs regularly: peony, bupleurum, gentian, dandelion, yellow dock, oregon grape root, blessed thistle, licorice and/or skullcap.

To help rejuvenate sexual functionality, use damiana, ginseng, dong quai, burdock and/or licorice.

Fu Ling
To relax and energize the nerves, combine skullcap, lobelia, valerian, lady's slipper and/or fu ling.

For the stomach, use dandelion, agrimony, gentian, barberry, don sen and/or elecampane.

Coltsfoot flower and leaves
To clear the lungs and mucus congestion pick from Yerba Santa, Elecampane, Irish Moss, Horehound, Marshmallow, Licorice, Echinacea. Coltsfoot, Hyssop, Wild Cherry Bark, Mullein and/or Slippery Elm.

Hawthorn Berries

To harmonize the heart, use hawthorn berries, ginseng, motherwort and/or rehmania.

To cleanse and detoxify the urinary system, combine gravel root, parsley, chickweed, horsetail, hydrangea, marshmallow root and/or rehmania, fu ling and drink “cool” 2-3x weekly.
