The RED HOT Miracle Food/Herb

Capsicum, also known as cayenne pepper, red pepper or chili pepper, is not just a fruit or vegetable (as it is commonly referred to), but has been used therapeutically by many cultures.  It has long been cultivated worldwide as a culinary spice or vegetable, and simultaneously used medicinally.  Any plant with leaves, seeds, or flowers that is used for flavoring, food, medicine or perfume, is considered an herb.  The power of the capsicum plant is due to its high concentration of capsaicin, which is the substance that gives it its hot, fiery sensation.

As a food source, cayenne is an excellent source of carotenoids, including beta carotene – a powerful antioxidant that can help prevent free radical damage, and thus has immune boosting potential. Its high levels of vitamin A (two teaspoons of cayenne pepper provide 47% of the daily value for vitamin A) support immune function as well.  It is also an excellent source of vitamin E, C, B6, K, manganese and dietary fiber.

It is known for its anti-fungal and anti-irritant properties, though cayenne is itself considered a hot irritant.  When combined with other herbs, it can help remedy various digestive issues, neutralizing acidity, relieving intestinal gas, stomach pain, diarrhea and cramps.  For most health issues, cayenne can be taken in two “00” capsules with a full glass of water, or ¼ teaspoon to a full glass of water.  When taken as a digestive aid it helps increase the flow of enzymes and the production of gastric juices, facilitating the metabolism of food and toxins.  If your issue is intestinal gas, taking cayenne before meals will influence the natural peristaltic motion in the intestines to facilitate better assimilation of your food, as well as spark smoother elimination.

It can do everything from kill cancer cells in the prostate, lungs and pancreas to immediately stop a heart attack within 30 seconds.  It has certain limitations with certain cancers, like colon cancer, and is not recommended at all with chemotherapy.  Make sure you do your research before consuming cayenne pepper in this regard.  Cayenne is widely known as the “emergency herb,” which when placed under the tongue at the beginning of a heart attack – can stop the attack!  The intense heat from cayenne will actually hit the heart so hard, it will shock the rhythm back to normal.  THIS DOES NOT MEAN IT STOPPED THE HEART ATTACK AND YOU’RE FINE.  IT MEANS IT HAS BOUGHT YOU A FEW EXTRA MINUTES TO GET EMERGENCY HELP.

Because cayenne is such a strong blood and circulatory stimulant, it is also used for conditions of the heart and blood vessels including heartburn, tremors, poor circulation, gout, excessive blood clotting, high cholesterol, and preventing heart disease.  It increases metabolism by immediately influencing the venous structure.  One of my best "circulation" formulas is my BLOOD WARRIOR FORMULA, which has cayenne as its main ingredient:  The unique energy of cayenne, is that it normalizes blood pressure.  If you have high blood pressure, it lowers it; if you have low blood pressure, it raises it; and it also balances the LDL cholesterol and triglycerides in the body.  Many people who participate in spring cleaning juice and liquid detoxes, often use the Master Cleanse, which includes cayenne as a main ingredient.  In the detox formula, cayenne is made with honey and lemon juice to stimulate the release of toxins.

In many workshops and classes, I have taught students about the "10-Day Cayenne Eyewash."  It clears the sinuses, relieves allergies and asthma, strengthens the vision, brings clarity of thought and drains mucus congestion in the head.  It is very strengthening and healing.  Yes, it burns, but it is a healing burn, not a damaging one.  Do NOT do it for more than 10 days in a row.  If it is done for too long a period, it can be damaging to the eyes.

I strongly suggest you try it if you suffer from any type of head congestion, vision weakness, sinus problems, allergies, etc.  Take a small pinch of cayenne (just enough to fit on the tip of a steak knife) in about 1/4 cup of tepid water and stir well. After you throw your head back, you are going to squeeze one eye (or both eyes if you have someone assisting you) very tight and pour a bit of the cayenne water into the corner of your closed eye(s).  I take a straw, put it in the water, close off the top with a finger which locks a bit of water in the straw, which I then release into the corner of my eye.  Then SLOWLY blink your eye(s) open-and-close, allowing a tiny bit of the cayenne water to slowly seep into the eye(s).  Just keep blinking and allowing more water in.  Hold a ball of tissue to the corner of your eye to prevent the water from dripping down your face. Once the burning subsides you can stop.  Do that with both eyes once a day for 10 days.  You will be amazed at the relief in your head, clarity of thought and vision, as well as strength.

Some people put cayenne (or goldenseal) inside the nose to treat hay fever, migraine headache, cluster headache, and sinus infections (sinusitis).  Again, use a very, very small amount of either powder (just enough to fit on the tip of a steak knife) and sniff into the nose.  Because cayenne pepper helps to break down mucus that congests in our noses, lungs and chest, the heat will bring rapid relief to colds and the flu.  Because of its strong stimulating powers over the blood and circulation, Cayenne pepper also helps reduce atherosclerosis and blood clots, which helps to reduce the chances of a heart attack or stroke.

Some people apply capsicum to the skin for pain caused by shingles, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. It is also used topically for nerve pain (neuropathy) associated with diabetes and HIV, other types of nerve pain (neuralgia), and back pain.  Capsicum is also used on the skin to relieve muscle spasms, as a gargle for laryngitis, and to discourage thumb-sucking or nail-biting.

Cayenne is an excellent preservative and has been used traditionally to prevent food contamination from bacteria, as an excellent agent against tooth and gum diseases, and as a poultice, cayenne has been used to treat snake bites, rheumatism, sores, wounds and lumbago.

STRESS LESS - with our New Guest Blogger: Yvelette Stines

10 Quotes That Will Help You Stress Less

Stress is a tricky emotion and reality that can wreak havoc on your life. From your mind, body, and soul nothing will be aligned when we are under stress. Our bodies react to this emotion differently, for some it is lack of sleep, overeating, our skin may break out, we may experience hair loss, and much more.

It is important to take time out for yourself and really align your life to live as calm as possible. It all starts with a thought, intention, and commitment to check in and be honest with yourself. If there are some things that you need to change, do it so you can live your best life possible. Be gentle with yourself and remember many small steps can create a big change.

Here are ten quotes on living a stress free life.

“In times of stress, the best thing we can do for each other is to listen with our ears and our hearts and to be assured that our questions are just as important as our answers.” Fred “Mister” Rogers

“Being in control of your life and having realistic expectations about your day-to- day challenges are the keys to stress management, which is perhaps the most important ingredient to living a happy, healthy and rewarding life.” Marilu Henner

Managing PAIN Naturally with Herbs

There is a category of herbs for PAIN MANAGEMENT called analgesics.

This formula contains the best analgesics the plant kingdom has to offer, and include WHITE WILLOW BARD, WOOD BETONY, SKULLCAP, ROSEMARY LEAVES, RED RASPBERRY LEAVES, BLUE VERVAIN and KELP. This formula may bring you relief from headaches (migraine and tension), neuralgia, neuritis, rheumatism, gout, and also reduces fever and anxiety.

Pain is the body's early warning system. It alerts us when we've ingested something not good for our body, when we need a change of diet, or when to simply get out of the sun. Pain is a symptom and not a disease; so you should not simply try to relieve the pain, but determine and attend to the cause. White Willow – the natural source of aspirin, combats pains of various sorts. Wood Betony has been used for heartburn, catarrh, bladder/kidney stones, asthma and fatigue. Skullcap is effectively used to treat nervous disease, restlessness, insomnia and neuralgia. Rosemary Leaf relieves headaches and stomach pains; and the oils in this herb soothes and calms the body's nerves and muscles. Blue Vervain is also anti-inflammatory, and has a calming and restorative effect on the nerves. Kelp helps prevent/relieve painful conditions by its iodine, vitamin and mineral content.

The prevention of painful conditions, such as rheumatism and arthritis can sometimes be addressed through proper nutrition. For example, too many acidic foods/drinks and the lack of essential nutrients attack our insulating nerve sheaths, which can lead to inflammation and neuritis. For every 10 people there are 10 different kinds of pain, so you will need to find the frequency and strength of the formula that helps bring relief. To help balance your energies, you can take 2-3 capsules 2-4 times daily.

Herb remedies used to relieve tensions and stress help promote natural sleep, while others help repair the nervous system. One formula/herb may work for some and not others. If one doesn't work, try another. Junk food, caffeine, salt and sugary foods also heighten stress and tension, so you need to reduce/eliminate these to aid the body's recovery. Eating late at night can be the source of discomforts, nightmares, restless sleep (insomniacs should cut down on salt) and resulting stress.

Herbal teas include Catnip (relieves 'congestion' of emotional tensions), Hops (used in pillows to treat insomnia), Vervain (good for nervous conditions and headaches), Eleuthero (Ginseng relative exceptional for treating insomnia), Rosemary (soothes/relieves nervous insomnia, mental fatigue and simple or congestive headaches), Mugwort (excellent nervine for uncontrollable shaking, insomnia), Marjoram (relieves headache/insomnia), Anise (½ tsp in cup of warm milk (stand for 5min then strain) at bedtime prevents insomnia and nightmares, Skullcap (excellent for all nerve disorders), Valerian (calming and sedating for emotional disturbances and pain), (Red) Fu Ling (best for nervous/restless conditions; treats hyperactivity in children) and my personal Bupleurum7 Capsules (renown formula for treating stress-related ailments, restores balance, helps adrenals adapt to stress and strengthens liver, stomach and intestines so you feel more able to cope with tensions, thus relaxing nerves and conserving energy so you live and sleep more comfortably).
